A HIGH school in the East End of Glasgow has called a meeting to discuss safety measures after two pupils were mugged and attacked at knifepoint as they walked home from class.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, family members hit out at a group of thugs after the incident left the St Mungo’s Academy boys in hospital.

The students were walking across the Gallowgate Bridge when they were set upon by a group of knife-wielding attackers who assaulted and robbed them.

The thieves were said to have taken phones off the pair before beating them to the ground and making off.

Now, staff at the school have called an open meeting for parents and young people to talk about safety issues being faced by pupils.

A letter reportedly given to parents this week said: “Reflecting on feedback from our recent surveys of parents and pupils, and reflecting on the events of recent days, it is clear there are concerns about safety in the local community.

“The safety of our young people is our primary concern at St Mungo’s. Informal conversations with parents and young people suggest safety issues in the local are growing, which we are keen to learn more about.”

It added: “We would like to invite parents and young people to attend an open meeting to discuss some of the current safety issues our pupils face.

“The purpose of the meeting will be to identify specific concerns and how we might find suitable solutions.”

The Evening Times has contacted the school for more information.

Police Scotland previously said they were making enquiries into the attack.

In an update to the Evening Times, the force said enquiries are still ongoing.
