STEVEN GERRARD hopes midfielder Jordan Rossiter can kick-start his career with a loan move away from Rangers this month.

The former Liverpool kid saw his first two seasons at Ibrox wrecked by injuries as he made just 11 first team appearances.

The appointment of Anfield legend Gerrard as boss in the summer gave Rossiter another chance to finally make his mark in Light Blue.

But a late run-out against Hibernian on Boxing Day is the last of only five outings he has made this term as he has been unable to force his way into the starting line-up.

Rossiter will be allowed to leave on loan before the end of the transfer window on Thursday night and Gerrard is keen to see the 21-year-old find regular football as he looks to prove himself once again.

He said: “I certainly feel for him. I don’t think the kid would want me to feel sorry for him.

“He is not that type of player. He just wants to play, he loves playing.

“He has had a horrendous time with injuries over the last couple of years but he came in for pre-season and started very strongly and was pushing for a place. Then he missed another six weeks with a separate injury and that certainly put him down the pecking order.

“From that point, I think you would all agree that Ryan Jack, who plays in his position, has arguably been our most consistent player.

“Now Ross McCrorie is emerging and is playing very strongly in that position as well so I had to have an honest conversation with Jordan.

“When I asked him what he is looking for, he said he wanted to start consistently and I couldn’t promise it.

“I think Mark Allen and myself have shown him as much respect as we can to try and help him get what he wants."
