A MAN has been arrested and charged for allegedly carrying an offensive weapon during a disturbance close to popular Rangers pubs in Glasgow.

The Evening Times reported late on Wednesday night how police rushed to Paisley Road following reports of a late-night disturbance.

The incident took place close to The Quayside Bar, and just down from The Union Bar, after 10pm.

An eyewitness told the Evening Times of the scale of the police response in the area.

The reader, who asked not to be named, said: “I saw it on my way home. There were absolutely dozens of police in attendance and they were moving traffic and pedestrians along, and you couldn’t get close at all.

“At first, I thought it could have been a total overreaction, but there were four police vans and three cars parked all along the street, and a few youths running from it, so I thought something had to have gone down.”
