DETECTIVES have launched an attempted murder inquiry after a 40-year-old man was stabbed in a flat close by a gang of masked men in a targeted attack.

The man is being treated in Glasgow Royal Infirmary after being 'violently attacked' in a common close in the Tollcross area at 9.20pm on Wednesday.

Three of his attackers were wearing masks and a fourth man had shaved blonde hair.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he is currently being treated for stab wounds. Hospital staff described his condition as stable.

Detective Inspector Greig Wilkie at Shettleston CID said: “Although the exact motive is unclear at this time, we believe that the victim was specifically targeted by the four masked men.

“Officers are currently viewing CCTV and carrying out door to door enquiries in an attempt to gain further information on the identities of the men responsible for this violent attack.

“I urge anyone who was in the vicinity of Easterhill Place around the time this incident took place and who may have seen the culprits hanging around the area either before or afterwards to contact police immediately.”
