THE head of a charity that supports parents with premature babies called for a "quick" resolution to the inquiry into the deaths of two infants at a Glasgow hospital.

Investigations are continuing into an outbreak of Stratococcus Aurealis at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital.

Two babies, who were said to very premature, died after contracting the infection and the health board said the bug was a factor in their deaths. Another baby is continuing to receive treatment.

Caroline Lee-Davey, Chief Executive of premature and sick baby charity Bliss Scotland, said: “Our thoughts are with all the families who have been affected by this devastating news – especially those parents who have lost their babies.

“Infection control on neonatal units is usually extremely robust and this type of situation is uncommon.

"We hope that the IMT investigation quickly gets to the bottom of this heartbreaking case.

"If you are a parent on a neonatal unit with concerns about this story, please don’t hesitate to speak with your baby’s doctors and nurses about your concerns”.
