Despite new styles coming into fashion almost everyday in stores across Glasgow’s High Street, we all love to take a little tumble back in time and dig through some clothes from yesteryear to see if any of it is worth throwing a lifeline to.

And it just so happens that Glasgow is one of the best places in the UK to get your hands on those vintage vibes.

Undeniably our very own West End is top of the list for retro rummagers with a selection of shops and hidden haunts packed with funky flashback items.

A personal favourite of mine has to be The Glasgow Vintage Company on Great Western Road which stocks a host of handpicked items from the 50’s to the 90’s and brands such as Levi, Barbour and Wrangler Denim. In all honesty I prefer to raid the men’s clothing in here for oversized band T-shirts and denim jackets and thanks to the stock being replenished daily, there is always something new to feast my eyes on.

Also making a statement on the same road is the aptly named Glorious. Those who are put off by the task of digging through piles of thrifty threads will find this beautifully organised store extremely inviting. Although not all classic vintage, some fabulous High Street styles can be purchased here and their wonderful window displays would make anyone stop for a peak inside.

Something special this way comes when you take a trip to Dowanside Lane and are met with one of the oldest vintage shops in Glasgow. Established in 1986, Starry Starry Night is a treasure trove of timeless trinkets and classic clothes from as far back as the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Exploring the magical memories hidden in this boutique is one of my favourite things to do on a Sunday afternoon.

In the city there is also many a gold dust piece to be discovered in Mr Ben Retro Clothing just behind St Enoch Centre. The bright yellow exterior is often crowded with garments which hang from all corners of the shop front. Inside there is even more digging to be done with rails as far as the eye can see filled with memorable styles from every decade. I’ve also found a few designer delights in this wardrobe of wonders over the years.

The Southside is also no stranger to the retro rails with Pollokshaws Road housing the gorgeous Glad Rags – a non-profit second hand shop bursting with bargain buys from past decades. Profits from this boutique, which is paired with The Glad Cafe, go towards providing workshops and lessons to local children – all the more reason to spend your pennies in this vintage gem.
