An appeal for witnesses has been issued by police following a road crash that left a teenager dead.

Jack Frame was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash around 2.20am on Sunday morning.

The 16-year-old, from the Coalburn area, was within the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

The driver and two passengers, two men aged 20 and an18-year-old boy and 19-year-old woman, were also injured and are currently in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The group were travelling in a blue BMW 1 series car northbound on New Trows Road near to Hollandbush Golf Club, Lesmahagow, when the vehicle has left the carriageway and collided with a tree.

Emergency services attended and traced four occupants within the vehicle.

The road was closed for around six hours whilst investigations were carried out.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Ryan McAuley at the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell said: "An investigation is currently underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or anyone who may have seen the car immediately before the crash occurred to come forward.

“I also urge anyone with dash cam footage of the BMW car in the area to contact police urgently.”
