POLICE have confirmed they have found a body in a burnt-out car near Glasgow.

The force said its officers were alerted to a report of a car on fire in High Blantyre on Monday night.

When the fire was put out, a body was found within the vehicle.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “At around 7.55pm on Monday, police were called to a report of a car on fire in Greenhall Park in Blantyre.

“The fire was extinguished and a body was found within the vehicle.

“Extensive police inquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person in the vehicle and the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

“In the meantime, the death is being treated as unexplained.”
