A brand new community hub is set to open in the north east of Glasgow this week to help shape the future of the area.

Springburn's new community hub will open on Thursday at 2pm, garnering the thoughts on the local area and what could be done to improve it.

A range of events and activities will gather the views of as many people as possible with major workshops also planned for March 15 and 16 to further the initiative.

Located in Springburn Shopping Centre, the project is also supported by Springburn’s Winter Gardens Trust, with funding for the events coming collectively from the Scottish Government, ng homes and Glasgow City Council.

Helen Carroll, chair of Springburn Community Council, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for Springburn. It's only right that the people of Springburn decide what their future looks like and what shape it will take."

"There's a wealth of history and knowledge here from the young to the old and this funding will allow us the opportunity to bring a scattered community back together again to ask some important questions."

Local MSP Bob Doris added: "Thursday fires the starting gun on a major community led consultation exercise.

"I would encourage everyone to come along and find out more. In the coming weeks local people and groups across Springburn will be asked how they wish to see their local environment improved."
