RANGERS have called for the Scottish FA disciplinary procedures to be reviewed as a matter of ‘extreme urgency’ after Allan McGregor was hit with a two-match ban.

The 36-year-old was offered a suspension by Compliance Officer Clare Whyte last week following an incident in Rangers’ Premiership win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

McGregor was cited for a challenge on midfielder Lewis Ferguson and Rangers appealed the case in a bid to clear his record and ensure he wouldn’t miss the matches with St Johnstone and Kilmarnock in the coming days.

The keeper attended Hampden in person on Wednesday but his attempts proved in vain as the initial punishment was upheld by the disciplinary panel.

It is the second incident from the controversial Dons clash that has gone against the Light Blues in recent days after striker Alfredo Morelos was hit with a three-game ban following his altercation with Scott McKenna.

Questions have been raised about the disciplinary process after a series of high-profile cases that have left supporters confused and angry over the perceived inconsistencies in the way suspensions are retrospectively handed out.

Rangers were involved in a dispute with the SFA earlier in the season after Daniel Candeias was sent off against St Mirren and his appeal was thrown out.

And now the Gers will continue to press for further dialogue and potential change at Hampden following the latest round of headline-grabbing incidents.

A club spokesperson said: “Rangers has no option other than to accept this decision. However, it is abundantly clear questions about the current disciplinary system, which we believe is flawed, must be posed.

“Rangers has been in dialogue with the Scottish FA on this topic for some time and would urge that the system is now thoroughly reviewed as a matter of extreme urgency.”
