THE LANDLORD of a student flat which neighbours claim is an intolerable party zone has been granted a new licence.

Councillors ruled in favour of the new owners of a Renfrew Street property, despite neighbours reporting regular anti-social behaviour.

Their decision to award a Housing in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licence came after the owners argued against the claims, saying most of the issues related to former tenants.

Neighbour Myra Ostacchini told councillors she moved in to her property with her husband in 2008 and had suffered due to anti-social behaviour during multiple tenancies.

She said: “It’s a party flat. The noise is intolerable. We have tried every year to talk to people to try to build a rapport.

“My husband gets up at 6am to get to work in Edinburgh, the parties go on until 2am.”

She said it was difficult to reason with party-goers when alcohol was involved, claiming she had received a “barrage of abuse” and her husband had been pushed down some stairs.

Quianne Reijnen, a student and live-in landlord, said: “We had one flat-warming party, which is when the police turned up.

“They said the music was too loud and we turned it down.

“We’ve actually became a bit paranoid, there’s certain rooms we don’t go into at certain times of the night.”

Glasgow City Council’s Licensing Committee chief Alex Wilson said there had been no complaints to the council since they took over.
