A ground floor flat has been destroyed by a fire.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Mill Road, Bothwell, around 2.45pm on Friday afternoon.

Four fire engines battled the blaze which destroyed the roof of the property.

A spokesman said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 2:45pm on Friday, February 15 to reports of a house fire in Bothwell.

"Operations Control mobilised four fire engines to the town's Mill Road, where firefighters were met by a well developed fire impacting a ground floor flat.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire and remained on the scene working to make the area safe."
