A man has been hospitalised after reports of a shooting in Dykemuir Street in Springburn on Saturday morning.

Police were called at around 11.15am to reports of gunshots.

Police said that the man's injuries were likely caused by a firearm.

A photo posted to a community Facebook group shows that police have cordoned off a section of Dykemuir Street.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called around 11.15am on Saturday 16 February 2019, after a report of gunshots were heard in the area of Dykemuir Street, Glasgow.

"A short time later, police were called to a report of a man attending hospital with injuries likely caused by a firearm and he is currently receiving treatment.

"Police enquiries are now being carried out in the Dykemuir Street area to establish more details and the circumstances surrounding this incident.  There are additional police patrols in the area to provide public reassurance and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.

"Any witnesses, or anyone with information should contact Maryhill Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 1630 of Saturday 16 February 2019."

Bob Doris, MSP for Maryhill and Springburn, appealed to Police Scotland on Twitter to reassure the public.

He said: "appreciate this is early stages of investigation but whatever info & reassurance u can offer my constituents would b welcome".
