THE public is being warned of five weeks of disruption as refurbishment on the Royal Infirmary Footbridge gears up to take place.

The area that will be impacted is at junction 15 on the M8, adjacent to the Townhead Interchange.

A programme of waterproofing, bridge joint work and resurfacing will be taking place from next week, and Scotland TranServ says it will be necessary to close the crossing to the public.

Andrew Orr, Scotland TranServ’s senior structures technician said: “The initial phase of this programme, the replacement of bridge bearings, was completed on schedule in December last year.

“We have been working with the local authority and key stakeholders such as the hospital to carefully schedule this secondary phase.

“Emergency services will not be affected throughout the duration of these works.

“It will be necessary to close the footbridge to the public so that we can carry out this project as safely as possible.

“A pedestrian diversion route will be in place throughout the scheme.”

Works will be carried out from 7am on Monday, February 25 for a period of approximately five weeks.

Pedestrians accessing the Royal Infirmary are asked to allow some extra time for their journey.
