Police are appealing for information following a knifepoint robbery on Wednesday morning.

At around 7.55am a 58-year-old woman was walking along Towerlands Road, Irvine, when a man on a black mountain bike stopped beside her.

He threatened her with a knife before snatching her handbag and making off on the bike.

The suspect is described as white, between 5ft 8 and 5ft10, slim to medium build, wearing white trainers, black joggers, a high visibility jacket and a hood or a hat.

Officers have now asked for the public to pass on any information they may have.

Detective Constable Andrew Dunlop, Saltcoats CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Towerlands Road or the Rivergate Shopping Centre yesterday morning and either witnessed the incident, or noticed a man matching the above description on a black mountain bike, to please get in touch."
