A PAEDOPHILE who sexually abused two schoolgirls while they were in bed has been jailed for 15 months.

Hugh Heron, 55, inappropriately touched both girls on the breasts while they were in his care.

One girl was repeatedly subjected to sex attacks by Heron over a six-year period.

Sick Heron’s second victim was subjected to an attack on one single occasion when she was at his Maryhill home between January 1993 and June 1995.

After a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Heron from Knightswood, was convicted of four charges.

He was found guilty of two charges of using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices, and a charge of indecent assault against his first victim who was between 12 and 18 when she was repeatedly attacked.

Heron was also convicted of using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices on one occasion towards the second girl who was 14 at the time.

Passing sentence today, sheriff Norman Ritchie QC said: “I have taken the view that a custodial sentence is unavoidable here.”

Members of the public gallery shouted “yes” when the sentence was announced.

Both women, now 38 and 39, told the court of their ordeals at the hands of Heron, when they were at his home.

An NSPCC Scotland spokesman said: “Abuse ruins childhoods and Herron carried out horrific attacks against young girls who were in his care.

“His actions will have devastated his victims’ lives into adulthood but this case shows that it is never too late for survivors to come forward, seek justice and receive the help and support they need.

“NSPCC Scotland works in schools and in the community to prevent abuse and neglect and anyone worried about a child or about past abuse can contact our helpline to report concerns.”
