CELTIC-daft rocker Sir Rod Stewart has admitted he “got a bit choked up” when he learned of the news that Brendan Rodgers left the Hoops to join Leicester City.

The “Maggie May” hitmaker also spoke of his disappointment and said the news “ruined my holiday.”

Rodgers was confirmed as Foxes manager after a whirlwind day of developments in Tuesday which paved the way for Neil Lennon to return to the Celtic dugout until the end of the season.

The timing of his departure has been criticised by fans and former players such as Chris Sutton, with Celtic eight points clear in the Ladbrokes Premiership but facing a much stronger challenge from Rangers than in Rodgers' first two seasons in charge.

Taking on radio station TalkSport, 74-year-old Sir Rod said: “It’s ruined my holiday. I actually got a bit choked up I must admit.

“Obviously, he was going to go sooner or later, but I would have thought he would have seen out the next two-and-a-half months and get the treble Treble if possible.

“I think there might be a lot of ill-feeling at Celtic now with the fans with him leaving us in the lurch.

“It’s like me giving up halfway through a tour. It’s disappointing people. There’s going to be so many disappointed Celtic fans.”
