SIR Rod Stewart backed Celtic fans who branded Brendan Rodgers a "fraud" as he launched another scathing attack on the football boss.

The singer, 74, said he was still "bitter" about Rodgers' decision to leave Celtic for Leicester City with the club on the verge of a historic Treble Treble of domestic trophies.

Hoops fans unveiled a banner before the side's 2-1 win against Hearts at Tynecastle on Wednesday night which read: "You traded immortality for mediocrity. Never a Celt. Always A Fraud."

Sir Rod said that summed up how he felt and claimed Rodgers could have had a statue of himself outside Celtic Park like club legends Jock Stein and Jimmy Johnstone if he had stayed until the end of the season.

The rocker - married to model Penny Lancaster - told radio station TalkSPORT: "We are bitter about it. There was a banner at the game last night saying 'Never a Celt, you're a fraud' and I think that says it all.

"If he had just stayed until the end of the season and did the Treble Treble he could have had a statue outside the ground like Stein and Johnstone.

"One of my mates said it's like getting a lift to the disco with somebody and then they leave you on your own.

"Brendan will probably nick a couple of our players which will be like rubbing salt in the wounds.

"If he had stayed for the Treble Treble we would have bowed down and kissed his feet.

"He would have been loved by everybody but not now, no way."

Sir Rod, who earlier said the news of Rodgers' departure had ruined his holiday in Dubai, said he would have to move on from his anger at the decision so he didn't upset his fanbase in Leicester.

He said he was now backing new boss Neil Lennon although he originally thought Hoops legend Henrik Larsson would be the best choice for the role.

He added: "We have got to move on and wish Leicester well. I have got a lot of fans in Leicester so I've got to be careful.

"I wanted Larsson but somebody said to me he is not much of a manager and has got no personality."

Rodgers, 46, was unveiled as Leicester City manager on Wednesday after spending two-and-a-half years in Glasgow during which time he won seven trophies.
