Giant plastic ducks have popped up in Queens Park in a bid to deter people from feeding the birds bread.

Pedestrians have been put off by the popular pass-time after experts revealed large amounts of bread and other human foodstuffs can be harmful, leading to potentially fatal conditions.

The move has caused anger with those who frequent the park.

A source told the Evening Times mouldy bread had been left at the side of the park's pond in protest.

One resident said she thinks they are unsightly. Posting on social media, she added: "I think they're an eye sore personally."

However, others who live nearby have said the giant plastic creatures have done a good job of raising awareness of duck feeding.

Abby Harkins said: "I quite like them.

"I think it's a nicer way to spread the word of 'no bread' than a sign people won't read.

"Love or hate them, they're doing a good job of getting people talking about them."

Posting online, one local said they were "definitely a good idea", while another said "they're fab".
