Several buildings at the University of Glasgow have been evacuated after a suspicious package was discovered.

The item was found in the university's mailroom on the main campus.

Under advice from Police Scotland, the buildings have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

At present, the following buildings have been closed: Boyd Orr Building, Mailroom, the OTC (Officer Training Corps) building next to it, Wolfson Medical Building, Bower Building, Isabella Elder Building, James McCune Smith Learning Hub site and the Joseph Black Building.

University Avenue is closed between Byres Road and Kelvin Way as police descend on the area.

Glasgow Times:

A spokesman for the University of Glasgow said: “A suspicious package has been found in the university’s mailroom on the main campus.

“The university is working closely with Police Scotland and on their advice, University Avenue has been temporarily closed.”

First Glasgow services are currently being  diverted on Gibson Street, on to Woodlands Rd, Right Park Road, Left Great Western Road, Left Byres Road, Right Highburgh Road This is effecting services both directions.

The Cultural and Creative Fair is temporarily closed.
