Cops have been stood down in Edinburgh after it emerged that the 'suspicious package' which sparked the evacuation of a banking HQ contained promotional materials.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh were called to the Royal Bank of Scotland building on Glasgow Road at around 10.45am on Wednesday March 6 following a report of a suspicious package.
"Inquiries have established that the package posed no risk to the public and contained promotional goods.
"The area surrounding the building has been reopened and the public are thanked for their patience whilst this incident was ongoing."
Meanwhile in Glasgow, the University was said to be closed for the rest of the day.
A post on the University of Glasgow Twitter account said: "As a precautionary measure, police have advised the evacuated buildings should remain closed for the remainder of the day.
"As such, classes in these buildings have been cancelled for the rest of the day."
