A GLASGOW MP has demanded an inquiry into police involvement in the blacklisting of trade union members, denying them jobs.

Chris Stephens, Glasgow South West SNP MP, challenged the Prime Minister over latest revelations that the Metropolitan Police and Special Branch were involved in the illegal blacklisting of union activists.

The scandal was first uncovered ten years ago with thousands of union members prevented from getting jobs after secret files were accessed by construction companies.

Mr Stephens said Glasgow had the fourth highest number of blacklisted workers in the UK.

He said: “These extremely alarming admissions prove that the illegal practice of blacklisting involved not only big business but the UK police forces and special branch.

"This is a national scandal that ruined the lives of working people involved in legitimate trade union activity.

“I call on the Prime Minister to launch a stand alone UK wide Public Inquiry into the role of big business and the UK police and security services in blacklisting workers.”

At Prime Minister’s Questions Theresa May, said: “The honourable Gentleman raises an issue that has been raised on several occasions.

"Of course, the Government have responded on this and I would be happy to write to him on it.”
