FIRST Glasgow has praised the “quick reactions and professionalism” of a city bus driver after a passenger was reportedly stabbed on board during the evening rush-hour.

The Evening Times reported on Wednesday how a man had been rushed to hospital following reports of a “stabbing” on Renfield Street.

Emergency services rushed to the area, close to the junction with Union Street and Gordon Street.

The Facebook page No1seems2care posted on social media claiming there had been a “a stabbing on number two bus.”

Police later confirmed a man had been injured.

The bus operator has today shed more light on the incident.

John Gorman, head of operations First Glasgow, told the Evening Times: “I can confirm an altercation took place on one of our services on Wednesday evening.

“A passenger was treated for minor injuries following an assault.

“Fortunately, incidents of this nature are very rare on our buses, but I would like to praise our driver for his quick reactions and professionalism in dealing with the incident.

“We are now assisting Police Scotland with their investigation into the incident including the provision of CCTV footage.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “At around 5.25pm on Wednesday, March 6, police responded to a report that a man had been attacked on board a bus near Renfield Street in Glasgow.

“An ambulance also attended and the man was found to have an injury to his leg.

“He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was receiving treatment.

“The enquiry is ongoing.”
