SNOW and sleet will hit a cold Glasgow this weekend, the Met Office has said.

The mercury will drop to near-freezing tonight before rain and hill snow clears with showers following, mostly in the west and wintry over high ground. Widespread frost will then develop late tonight.

Saturday will be a mostly dry and bright start, but cloud with rain, sleet and hill snow will soon arrive.

This will clear in the evening with wintry showers following. It may be occasionally windy and the maximum temperature will be just 5°C.

Sunday will be rather cold and unsettled on Sunday, with showers or longer spells of rain on Monday, with some snow even down to lower levels at times.

Tuesday is forecast to be windy with heavy rain.
