Four men have been arrested following an incident involving armed police in Glasgow.

Eyewitness reports suggest that three men were arrested by specialist officers at around 1pm on Friday near to the Forge Market on East Wellington Street. 

Posts on social media suggest that the men were driving a grey Mercedes before being stopped by Police.

They then appeared to kneel on the ground whilst they were surrounded by cops. 

Eyewitnesses have said the three men were held there with weapons pointed at them. 

Keith Gough, 44, a manager at Jem Carpets, said: said: "We were just in work and looking across the street. 

"Police stopped them and pulled them out of the car at gunpoint. Then the three of them were taken away in separate cars.

"Some cars were unmarked and all of the police had guns and masks on. They weren't your everyday polis."

Another witness said: "I was coming out the doctors and heard police shouting get down on the f****** ground with your hands behind your head. There was a lot of commotion. 

"By the time I got outside there was police, six or seven with guns who blocked the street off with their 4x4s.  It was a grey Mercedes car and they pulled 3 black men inside.

"Then I noticed more police, they were at both ends of the road. The three men were held with their heads against the car with guns pointed at them."

Others have also written about the incident online. 

Posting on Twitter, Kymberlie Robertson said: "3 police cars and armed police just arrested 3 men near the Forge market in Parkhead, Glasgow.

"Men driving a steel grey Mercedes. No idea the reason but from the footage it seems a smooth operation."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Four men have been arrested and detained in police custody following a policing operation in the East End of Glasgow today.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
