A man required hospital treatment after being shot near Kilmarnock.
The 46-year-old man was found injured near to Ayr Road, outside of the town, around 1.50pm on Monday.
It is not known how he came to be injured and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland, said: "Police are investigating after a 46 year old man was found injured near to Ayr Road, outside Kilmarnock, around 1.50pm on Monday 11 March 2019.

"Emergency services attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital to be treated for injuries thought to have been caused by a firearm. He has since been released from hospital.
"Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Kilmarnock CID via 101, quoting incident number 1898 of Monday 11 March 2019."
