A triple Olympic swimmer has been announced as the official ambassador for LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships which come to Glasgow later this year.

Organisers of the event have unveiled Hannah Miley as the face of the competition at Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

One of the most decorated British swimmers of all time, the competitor won multiple 400m Individual Medley titles at British, European and Commonwealth level.

Hannah’s resumé also includes world silver medal, whilst her fourth place finish at the Rio 2016 Olympics was just shy of medal.

‘Smiley Miley’, as she is affectionately known, says she is relishing the prospect of competing at the highest level in Scotland once more.

She said: “I’m really excited that Scotland has the opportunity to host another major international sporting event and I think as a nation we’ve shown over the last few years that we can put on a great show.

"Competing in front of a home crowd is such a special experience that is hard to put into words – it’s great that we’ve got another opportunity to look forward to later this year.”

Taking place between December 4 and 8, spectators will watch as European champions are crowned over five days of rip-roaring action in Glasgow, with swimmers competing in 40 short course events.

Held every two years, 2019 will mark the event’s 20th edition.

Short course swimming is a fast-paced event and is guaranteed to have crowds energised from start to finish.

Races are competed in a 25m pool, requiring swimmers to complete more turns, so crowds will see competitive, adrenaline-fuelled races – setting up this event as one of the most exciting of the year.

Scottish Swimming’s chief executive officer, Forbes Dunlop, said: “Hannah is an outstanding ambassador for our sport and I’m delighted to hear of her announcement as ambassador for the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships.

"No-one knows better than her about the importance of home support and I know that Glasgow will put on a great spectacle to showcase swimming at its very best.”

Billy Garrett, director of sport and events at Glasgow Life, said: “It is an honour to be welcoming the 20th edition of the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships in December.

"We are particularly delighted to be announcing Hannah Miley as Official Ambassador for the event, having such a successful athlete representing the championships is fantastic.

“It has been really positive to see ticket sales going so well in the first week alone.

"We are delighted to continue to fly the flag high for first-class sporting events in the city and we will be delighted to welcome some of the top European athletes in the discipline of swimming to Tollcross this December.”
