Glasgow City Council have applied for planning permission to build a new primary school in the Maryhill area.

The school, provisionally called North Kelvinside, is proposed for the gravel sports pitches bounded by Queen Margaret Drive, Maryhill Road and Kelvinside Avenue.

Developers say the school is needed due to "the resurgence, regeneration and rising school roll projections in the greater Maryhill area”.

The finished building would look onto Queen Margaret Drive and would consist of 14 classrooms accommodating up to 378 pupils.

Inside facilities include a multi-purpose hall, flexible teaching spaces a drama stage.

Outside, there would be a floodlit 11-a-side 3G pitch and a multi-use games area available for community use outwith school hours.

The pitches will be operated by Glasgow Life.

Glasgow Times:

Planning documents submitted with plans state: "The development presents an opportunity to create a facility that is not only an educational establishment but also a key community building that will be used by the local community."

Locals have previously voiced concerns about the addition to the area, including that the non-denominational school could contribute to increased car congestion in the area, especially at pick-up and drop-off times around the school day.

The scale of the building was reduced and its location was set back from the residential street to appease locals concerned about its size.

The development will now be looked at by city planners.
