Evening Times readers have shared their thoughts on the controversy which followed Celtic victory over Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday.

Dozens of fans on social media shared their disgust after footage showed an Irish flag being removed from a billboard emerged online.

While supporters groups voiced their disgust at the actions, Dundee said the reason was not sinister - stating simply that the flag breached rules as it was covering advertising.

The issue has split opinion, with many suggesting that stewards and Dundee Football Club were within their rights to remove the flag.

John Cairney said: "Dundee's reason for removing the flag is valid. At Celtic Park the stewards tell the fans who are displaying banners and flags that cover advertising while the game is taking place to remove them.

"They are allowed to display their banners and flags over the advertisements before the game and at half time."

Jim Jones added: "If it's covering advertising then it had to be moved. Not sure if they asked the guy to move it first though or just yanked it down which would have been a bit naughty."

Others called for Celtic to investigate the "dangerous" behaviour of their fan who chased their flag.

Hugh Gordon said: "In the video someone appears to be leaping and dropping over the barrier presumably in an attempt to confront the stewards whilst very dangerous to that someone and the persons below. Hardly the action of a responsible adult.

"Such inconsideration should have been dealt with more severely, plus if that person is a Celtic supporter then the club should take action re punitive suspension from match attendance at the very least. Come on Celtic, investigate and follow through as expected from a sport caring club."

However, Steven Park feels that some of the behaviour was unfair.

He said: "The explaination given was that the flag was obscuring the advertising board
which is why it was removed, fair enough I suppose but what was not fair that
when the Celtic fan in question asked for his flag back he was refused it and
then promptly ejected from the ground.

Martin Monaghan said: "It was St Patrick's day. There was Irish flags up all over Scotland so no idea why this was taken down."

The incident did not irritate everyone though, with Daryl Cherry calling it the "best thing about yesterday's game".
