The parents of a teenage girl who was left with horrific injuries to her face following a car park attack have called on Police to catch the culprits "quickly" so they can answer for their crime.

Caitlin Shepherd, 19, suffered horrendous cuts and bruising to her face, as well as her hands and limbs, after she was dragged out of her car and assaulted in Strathclyde Country Park on Sunday.

The attack could leave the John Wheatley College student with scarring on her face, but doctors at Glasgow Royal Infirmary decided not to stitch the cuts to reduce this risk.

Caitlin's parents have now shared their shock at the attack, which left blood spattered across the inside of the teenager's vehicle.

Caitlin’s dad David, a painter, told the Daily Record that he was appalled at the attack.

He added: “She has been left very shaken up by this and the details are disgraceful.

“She phoned me up to tell me what happened and just broke into tears.

“She isn’t the type to get into trouble and she was just minding her own business when these people decided to behave like this.

“I’m hoping that the police will arrest who is responsible quickly and they are forced to answer for this.”

The family are also hoping that those responsible can be traced, after finding strands of pink hair in Caitlin's car, believing that the attackers were driving a red Seat Arosa.

Caitlin's mum Eleanor added: “It could have been a lot worse but it has been terrible because no-one wants to see their daughter going through something like this.”

Following the incident, Caitlin also shared her account of the ordeal.

She told the Daily Record: "I have no idea what led to these girls becoming so angry because there was no incident beforehand and I don’t know them.

"But they lost the plot and I didn’t know when they were going to stop. If they had got me out of the car, I don’t know what would have happened.

"I was in the car park and they came up behind me and started revving their engine, which was odd, so I moved into a parking space, thinking they would drive away.

"Instead, they came up behind me and blocked me in and one girl, with reddish brown hair, started shouting about how we were going to get stabbed.

"They were asking what my f***  problem was and demanding I got out of the car.

"I told her I didn’t have a problem and that I didn’t know who she was or what she was on about.

"The driver had pink hair and she was the one who started trying to open my car door and drag me out of the car. She was holding something and ramming it into my face.

"I couldn’t believe how hard she was hitting me and at one point I though I was going to pass out and that got me really scared.

"I kept fighting to stay in the car and I think that they both became aware of how much blood there was and that gave them a fright and they backed off and drove away.

"I just burst into tears and I couldn’t believe what had happened to me because it was unprovoked and out of the blue."
