FIREFIGHTERS have tackled an early-morning blaze in Glasgow.

Emergency services are still in attendance at the high-rise on Kirkton Avenue in Knightswood.

Visible smoke damage could be seen above one of the windows on the tenth floor of the south side of the building.

One fire engine remains in place as does a police car.

One resident, who lives on the top floor, told the Evening Times he was awoken around 8.45am to his smoke alarm going off.

He said he did not leave the building and was not evacuated by emergency services.

Labour & Co-op City Councillor for Glasgow’s Garscadden/Scotstounhill, councillor Eva Murray, said: “My thanks go out to the emergency services for getting to the scene quickly this morning & it is my understanding that they have now got the fire under control.

“I have also been told that 1 man has been taken to hospital.

“I will provide any further update as I receive it.”
