GLASGOW’S Ikea store will see “business as usual” today after fire crews rushed to an early-morning blaze.

We reported this morning how emergency services were called to the business on Kings Inch Drive, Renfrew, just after 4.10am.

Four appliances using water pumps were at the scene at the height of the incident.

The blaze involved a number of pallets.

There were no reports of casualties, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said.

It is understood staff members were evacuated for around 20 minutes.

Rob Cooper, Ikea Glasgow store manager told us: “We are able to confirm that an isolated incident occurred in the Ikea Glasgow store in the early hours of Friday, March 29, whereby a fire started in our loading bay.

“The store was swiftly evacuated and the emergency services were called.

“The incident was dealt with and the store will be open for business as usual today”.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 4.12am to reports of a fire at Ikea.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire engines to the scene, where crews extinguished a fire within the ground floor of a two-storey warehouse building.

“A full evacuation of the building was carried out, and there were no casualties.

“The last appliance left the scene at 6.39am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
