A NEW minibus service to help Bankies get to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) is holding a drop-in session this week.

G81 Buses is being set up by the G15 Buses charity which had originally intended to serve the Drumchapel area first and expand to Clydebank.

Due to more interest from Clydebank, organisers hope to start there.

The service is run as a travel club so needs people to sign up and then cater directly to member needs.

Past attempts to get commercial bus services from the town to the QEUH have been unsuccessful.

Organiser Will Thomson explained it's a service where people book their seats in advance and the club takes care of the pick-up close to your home and drop off at the QEUH.

Councillor Danny Lennie, who said he had some questions remaining about how the service would operate, said any direct route to the hospital was welcome.

He said: "For several years here in Clydebank we have had a grossly inadequate service to the QEUH, apart from the trial bus we have been completely ignored by SPT.

"I would like to wish this new group every success in their endeavours, but ultimately Clydebank needs and deserves a guaranteed route to the hospital.

"SPT have the responsibility to do this, SPT can do this, but nobody at Scottish transport forces them to honor their responsibilities."

The drop-in session will be held at Centre81 in Whitecrook on April 3 from 1pm to 4pm. There will also be a public meeting at 6pm for those wanting to find out more.
