STRIKING images of local people from Glasgow’s South Side form the centrepiece for a new £17million health centre.

Local arts organisation Wave Particles was involved in a project to celebrate the patients and staff at the New Gorbals Health and Care Centre.

The images are displayed throughout the building, which was officially opened on Wednesday and offers patients a one-stop shop of health and social work services.

Patients have access to four GP practices, physiotherapy, dental services and child mental health services at the New Gorbals medical centre.

There are also support services for drug and alcohol addiction and social work services and the centre provides a base for home visiting services for pregnant women and smoking cessation.

It follows the opening of similar health centres which combine medical and social work services in Maryhill, Pollokshields and Possilpark.

John Brown, Chairman of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “Undoubtedly, the new centre is a valuable addition to the community as it is a purpose built, bright, modern and fully accessible building.

Glasgow Times:

“Services are fully integrated meaning it provides an opportunity to reshape health and social care from a patient and service user perspective.

“We have recently opened new health and care centres at Eastwood, Pollokshields, Maryhill and Possilpark.

“This new centre represents the latest investment in our health and care services and it, along with those others, is central to our commitment to deliver the highest quality, person centred and locally based care as possible.”

The centre was officially opened by Health Secretary Jeane Freeman.

She said: “We want to see GPs empowered to play an enhanced role, leading multi-disciplinary teams of health professionals.
