PLANS to install flood prevention schemes in an area of Glasgow’s South Side are being taken forward.
Southside Housing
Association along with the council’s development and regeneration services want to introduce surface water management measures at an area of underused green space at Queensland Court and Garden.
It is hoped that by creating capacity in the combined sewer and surface water drainage network the risk of flooding will be reduced.
Also included are plans to create new play areas with access to woodland.
The application submitted on the association’s behalf by SWECO would allow for the creation of central improved green space and feature play equipment, a centrally located area for sports, natural play and flower displays.
The large area of greenspace is surrounded by two residential high-rise buildings at 15 Queensland Gardens (Bute House) and 5 Queensland Court (Cumbrae House).
Thirty-five parking spaces will be directly adjacent to each tower block which means 70 spaces will be available in total while two dedicated electric vehicle charging points will be in each parking area along with cycle shelters.
Also proposed is improved access to the area and disabled parking for the associated residential flats.
There would be vehicle drop-off points and
emergency access to each block of flats.
A community consultation was carried out in September 2018.
Cardonald councillor Alex Wilson said: “This is a great idea which will brighten up that unused area and put in flood protection.
“There will also be a development to upgrade the car park and put in additional disabled parking while creating a play area that is safe for children.”
