A COMIC has been jailed for more than four years over a harrowing reign of terror against two victims.

John David McDade - who won Virgin's New Stand Up of the Year in 2014 - was described as a "serious danger to women" after being convicted of horrific domestic abuse and stalking.

Remorseless McDade, 37, blew kisses to two former victims and smirked before being locked up for four years and three months.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard how McDade - who was convicted of abusing three other women in 2013 - preyed on his victims before he "slowly and insidiously" controlled them.

Two previous victims sobbed and gasped as they heard how McDade - whose stage name is JD Brown - had been reported as a suspect for 14 domestic incidents by five victims between 2003 and 2011.

Upon sentencing, Sheriff Derek O'Carroll told the court: “In my opinion, based on all the evidence, you pose a serious danger to any woman who is unlucky enough to be entrapped in your manipulative and controlling snares.

“The harm that you have deliberately caused to these two women can only merit a lengthy custodial sentence.”

Glasgow Times:

The court heard how he had carried out a two-year campaign of abuse against the first victim.

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll described the 37-year-old as having “insidiously” preyed on his first victim before taking control of her through “physical coercion and manipulation.”

He abducted the 39-year-old and locked her in his home, refused to let her leave and forced her to stay overnight.

On various occasions on the victim between December 2011 and December 2013, the comedian battered the woman, seized her by the throat and held her down, restricting her breathing.

Sheriff O'Connell told him: “During a period of over two years you met and charmed her, you got close to her, you led her to trust you and then slowly and insidiously you began to take control of her by mental and physical coercion and manipulation.

“You threatened and abused her, destroyed her property, you assaulted her on many occasions and you used force to prevent her from leaving your house.

“Eventually she gathered the courage and determination to leave you and did end the relationship.

“You began what might be described as a campaign, or course of conduct, against her.

“The victim impact statement reflects how you caused this normally bright, bubbly, sociable, happy and gregarious woman to fall ill with depression and anxiety and suffering.

“She describes you as having ruined her life.”

The shamed comic was also found guilty of a three-year campaign of abuse against another 29-year-old female.

Between April 2015 and August 2016, McDade smashed a plate, threw a hot drink on her face, pinned her to the floor and struck her on the head and body.

He also filmed the woman in a distressed state and told her he would humiliate her by sending the video to her work.

Sheriff O'Carroll said the incident was "particularly despicable" after stating that McDade had reduced the woman to a "pitiful state" through his abuse before taking advantage of her vulnerability.
