Day of Poll Order set up in case UK hasn’t left EU
The Government has tabled an order enabling elections
to the European Parliament to be held in Britain if the country has not left the EU by the time they take place next month.
The Day of Poll Order sets the date for the elections on May 23, but the Cabinet Office said they would automatically be cancelled if the UK left before then.
The announcement comes as Theresa May prepares for talks today with Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin and President Emmanuel Macron in Paris ahead of another crucial EU summit in Brussels the following day.
The UK Government now has until April 12 to secure a deal.
Dubai arrest threat for Brit

Laleh Shahravesh, 55, faces two years in jail and a £50,000 fine over posts allegedly written three years ago after she discovered that her former partner, Pedro, had remarried.
Three teens stabbed
Three teenagers have been taken to hospital after being stabbed within minutes of each other in north-east London.
Metropolitan Police officers were called to Lukin Crescent, Waltham Forest, and found a boy, believed to be 15, with a stab wound. Minutes later, they were called to Westminster Gardens where two 19-year-old men were found with stab wounds.
Corbyn offers gardening tips
Jeremy Corbyn has offered gardening tips to US politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ms Ocasio-Cortez had asked for advice from her social media followers on how best to tend to a community garden.
Corbyn urged the Democrat congresswoman to get her “hands dirty” with soil.
Airshow families in plea
The families of the 11 men who died in the Shoreham Airshow crash have called for a “thorough and fearless” inquest which is likely to re-examine the actions of the pilot.
Andrew Hill, who survived the crash, had been attempting a loop when his Hawker Hunter exploded into a fireball on the A27 in West Sussex on August 22 2015.
