AREAS of Glasgow, including the city centre, were hit with a power cut following an electrical fault.

The Trongate area was without power Tuesday evening for around one hour, with members of the public tweeting that traffic lights at Glasgow Cross were also out.

The outage affected homes and businesses in the G1, G4 and G40 postcodes.

Scottish Power Energy Network have now said that power has been restored as of 5.40pm.

A statement by SP Energy Network at the time of the outage said: "There is an unplanned power cut in the G1, G4, G40 postcode areas of Glasgow.

"This has been caused by a fault on our electrical network. Our control centre will attempt to reset the network remotely and we will also send our next available engineer to investigate and repair the fault.

"We expect power to be back on by 6.15PM and will make every effort to contact you if the situation changes. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. This message was recorded at 4.24PM on 9th April 2019."
