Dippy the dinosaur has now been visited by more than one million people while on tour, with over 450,000 people catching a glimpse at the Diplodocus at Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

The 26 meter long cast has never been on public display outside of London’s Natural History Museum, but Dippy is currently travelling the UK until late 2020 on a nationwide tour.

He is due to visit eight Museums in total before returning to London.

Since his Scottish debut in January, the fourth stop on the tour, at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow’s west end, he has been visited a whopping 450,000 times, making it the museum’s highest visitor numbers to a temporary exhibition to date.

The tour originally aimed to introduce 1.5 million people to the dinosaur cast, helping inspire the next generation of scientists.

Now nearing the halfway point, Dippy is well on his way towards achieving this goal.

Councillor David McDonald, chair of Glasgow Life, said: “The response to Dippy on Tour at Kelvingrove Museum has been incredible.

“We are delighted Dippy will add the title of millionaire to his many achievements here in Glasgow, a city that has really taken him to our heart.

“Don’t forget there is still time to see Dippy in Glasgow before he stomps off to Newcastle.”
