An 85-year-old woman with dementia who was attacked during a housebreaking remains in a 'serious' condition' in hospital days after the 'sickening' incident.

The elderly woman's home in Hawthornhill Road, Dumbarton was broken into on Sunday, April 14, between 1.45am and 2.45am.

It is unknown at this time if anything was stolen from the address.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where she is being treated for head and facial injuries.

Hospital staff describe her condition as serious but stable.

Police have now re-appealed for information about the incident.

The suspect is described as male, around 6ft, of slim build and was wearing dark clothing.

He made off on foot towards Castlehill Road and may have been carrying a parasol.

Detective inspector Ogilvie Ross of Clydebank Police Office said:  “My officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries into this sickening incident and we are determined to trace the man responsible for this appalling crime as soon as possible.  We would appreciate any assistance the public can give us, and are re-appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
