GLASGOW is divided over a pro-independence march organiser's refusal to change the start time to aid emergency services.

As the Evening Times revealed yesterday, All Under One Banner (AUOB) said it would not change the planned 1pm start time of its May 4 procession despite fears it would cause emergency servies to declare a "major incident" to manage the 100,000-strong crowd expected to turn up.

A hearing will take place at Glasgow City Council on Tuesday where elected members will be urged to impose a start time of 11am.

The news has divided our readers.

In an Evening Times poll, which asked readers if the start time should be changed, 89 per cent of the 3,326 voters said it should not be changed.

And, on our Facebook page, commenters said the march should go ahead as planned with the likes of Raab Stewart saying: "We will be marching anyway."

However, the majority of comments shared a different view with readers wondering how the AUOB could be allowed to ignore warnings of a major incident from police when loyalist group the Apprentice Boys of Derry had their own march rerouted after cops said it would cause too much hassle.

Elaine Young said: "So ok for the rules to be broken - no permission for Glasgow Green!

"No objection so long as they are made to meet all criteria."

Stoo Bod Tod added: "Ok so they are allowed to march where they want but others like the orange order can't...double standards me thinks."

While, Gary See insisted it wasn't a fair comparison. He said: "This is one single march. On one day.

"To compare that to 39 (so far) on one day (July 6) without even taking into account the numerous others from March onwards, every single weekend, is nonsense."
