Is it possible to not visit a beer garden on a sunny bank holiday?

Here we select some of Glasgow’s finest watering holes for a sunny day off work.

Clockwork Beer Co.

1153-1155 Cathcart Road

The Southside’s Clockwork is quirky in every sense. The exterior looks part-Willy Wonka’s Beer Factory, part-pub, and they actually brew all their beer on-site.

Their beer garden gets the right balance of shade and sun so you can duck in and out to avoid burning.

There’s even a massive skylight so you can feel like you’re outside even when you’re inside.

Kids are welcome and the food’s good too.

Record Factory

17 Byres Road

Want music with your bank holiday? Then Record Factory is your place.

This Glasgow mainstay has everything you could need: classic comfort food, solid selection of drinks, live music, dogs and, of course, a huge beer garden.

It looks particularly beautiful in the sun.

West on the Green Templeton Building

Glasgow Green

This might be Glasgow’s most striking pub. Also boasting their own on-site brewery, West on the Green is a giant red-brick building on Glasgow Green that actually used to be a carpet warehouse.

They do decent pub grub and their Wild West brew is highly recommended.

Once more, we have another pub who welcome dogs inside and out.

Cottiers

93-95 Hyndland Street

An old church-turned-pub that has a wooded beer garden and fires up the barbie at the weekend? Count us in.

Get there early to get a seat.

Inn Deep

445 Great Western Road

The West End’s Inn Deep keeps their selection of craft beers and other drinks on frequent rotation.

You can also expect spoken word and live music.

The setting is its biggest pull, though.

Situated beside the River Kelvin, Inn Deep is built in the arches of the bridge overhead.

Their seating spills out on to the walkway on the river banks, making this one of the prettier locations you’ll visit this weekend.

Babbity Bowster

16-18 Blackfriars St

Given its central location, this pub somehow manages to remain pleasantly tucked away.

The (mostly) 18th-century building is a charming architectural triumph, and the atmosphere is just as good. Expect expertly made food and classic drinks in their shady little beer garden.

I don't need to sell the idea of going to @jintymcguintysirishbar this weekend to anyone, they'll have a full house from tonight till Sunday I can guarantee it! What those lucky people that gain entry will receive if they choose to (and I know most will) is one of the finest pints of Guinness you can hope to pay for this side of the Irish Sea. There's scarce few pubs in this neck of the woods that'll give you that much sought after 'bit o' the cream' (copyright- @guinnesslove_dotcom), but Jintys is one of them. It's always been a high standard, but this pint last week was one of the best I've had. It just had that TASTE. You know the one. That black velvety creamy goodness. Have a great St Patrick's weekend, everybody. Get to Jintys for the best of the best, easily a 10/10 #Guinness #Glasgow

Jinty McGuinty’s

29 Ashton Lane

Jinty’s is Irish through and through, so this is the place for any Guinness-lover in Glasgow.

You can also expect to find criminally underpriced food and the odd bit of live music too.

Their beer garden’s not bad either.

Visit here.

Lock 27

1100 Crow Rd

A little further from Glasgow city centre than most on this list, Lock is a big pub, inside and out.

They are known for their big sharing platters and classic beers as well.

Their canalside beer garden is exposed to the sun for the entire day, so this one is perfect for sun-worshippers.

Cathedral House

28-32 Cathedral Square

This self-described “boutique inn” was built in 1896. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to have changed much since then - it’s no wonder this place is used for weddings.

It reopened late last year, so expect it to look slicker than ever.

The food is fancy but affordable and there is even a rumour the inn is haunted.
