The death of a man in Thornliebank earlier this week is being treated as murder, according to police. 

Detectives have announced that a murder inquiry has been launched following the death of a 33-year-old male, named as Anthony Ferns. 

The incident took place in Roukenburn Street, Glasgow on Thursday, April 18, 2019.

Mr Ferns was reportedly sitting in a blue Audi A3 in Crebar Street at its junction with Roukenburn Street, when he was approached by a man who seriously assaulted him whilst he was in the car.

The injured man managed to drive a short distance to his home address in Roukenburn Street and got out the car.

Emergency services were then called to a report of the man lying injured in Roukenburn Street and attended the address, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination will take place to establish the exact cause of death, however police are currently treating the death as murder and a murder inquiry has been launched.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 20-30 years of age and between 5ft 8- 6ft in height.  He was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit and possibly a light-coloured baseball cap and he ran off from the scene in Crebar Street.

Police have confirmed that "extensive" enquiries are ongoing and that relatives of Mr Ferns have been informed, with officers appealing to anyone with information to contact them. 

Emergency services had raced to Roukenburn Street around 10.20pm last night amid reports a man had been seriously injured. The 33-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of the south side street remains closed off as police continue their enquiries into the incident.

Detective chief inspector Grant Macleod said: “Extensive police inquiries are ongoing in the area of Crebar Street and Roukenburn Street at this time.  Officers are carrying out house to house enquiries and gathering CCTV footage from the local area to provide more information that will help us trace the man responsible for this vicious attack.

“The team of officers are also working to establish a motive for this crime.  They are currently piecing together the victim’s last known movements to find out as much information as possible on the circumstances surrounding this death.

“Understandably Mr Fern’s family are extremely upset and have been left devastated by this murder.  We have specially trained officers providing support to the family and they are keeping them updated on this investigation.

“I completely understand that the local community will be concerned by this incident.  I would like to stress that everything is being done to catch the person responsible as quickly as possible.  Extra police patrols are in the area and members of the public are encouraged to speak to a police officer if they have any concerns.
