A man arrested in connection with the murder of Trainspotting 2 star Bradley Welsh has been released.

The 48-year-old actor was shot outside his home on Chester Street, Edinburgh, on Wednesday April 17.

Police confirmed that the man arrested in connection with the murder had been released pending further enquiries. 

Mr Welsh was murdered in a stairwell as he was heading into his basement flat to see his partner and daughter at around 8pm last Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the force said: "A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of 48-year-old Bradley Welsh in Chester Street, Edinburgh, on Wednesday, April 17.

"He has been released pending further inquiries.

This investigation is continuing and anyone who has information, but has yet to come forward, is asked to do so immediately."

Officers appealed for anyone information with information that may help their investigation to come forward.

Mr Welsh starred alongside Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle in T2 Trainspotting, playing a gangland figure called Mr Doyle.

As well as appearing on film, he was involved in charity projects in Edinburgh, including helping young people to stay away from a life of crime through his Holyrood Boxing Gym.
