A MOTHER has been left “disgusted” after a B&M store sold her out-of-date baby food which made her child violently ill.

Natalie Mclachlan, 23, purchased a packet of Heinz “creamy fish pie” baby food from the Parkhead retail park store on Sunday lunchtime, only to discover it was nearly three months out of date.

She realised after giving the food to eight-month-old Rocco that it was out of date and within the hour he had horrendous diarrhoea, vomiting and a high temperature.

“I usually always check the date on the food, but this time just because I was in a rush to go get him I never did until after I gave it to him,” the mum of one said.

“After I gave him it, I noticed he was kind of crying a little bit and I looked at the packet because it started smelling off and it said 6th February 2019, so I got a fright.”

She raced back to the Parkhead store and demanded to speak to the manager.

While she was waiting, the young mum noticed there were still eight packets of the out-of-date fish pie meal on the shelves, all with the date February 5 or 6.

The manager offered her a refund of 90p and apologised for the incident, but Natalie felt it wasn’t heartfelt.

“It’s not the money that’s the problem it’s obviously the staff aren’t checking the dates.

“It’s quite disgusting actually. We didn’t even get a heartfelt apology,” she said.

The other out-of-date packets were subsequently removed by B&M staff and an investigation by the Evening Times found no other out-of-date food in the Parkhead store.

Concerned about her baby’s health Natalie called the NHS non-emergency number on Sunday afternoon and spoke with a nurse.

“They said because he had the diarrhoea pretty quickly hopefully it had just gone through his system, but if it got any worse to take him straight to the hospital.

“By the evening his temperature was still quite high, he was quite clingy, he was still a little bit sick.

“He was actually ok during the night because I was up and down making sure he was fine,” she said.

Natalie added: “I definitely won’t use this store again to be honest.”

B&M was contacted for comment and said it is investigating the incident.
