A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the assault of an elderly woman in her home.

The 85-year-old's house on Hawthornhill Road, Dumbarton, was broken into on Sunday, April 14.

The victim, who suffers from dementia, was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital after for treatment to head and facial injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed today that a man has since been arrested, added: “A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this incident and is due before Dumbarton Sheriff Court today.

“A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
