Rangers captain James Tavernier has shared a picture of racist abuse sent to him via Instagram.

The 27-year-old Gers full-back was sent the abusive message via direct messages, and he shared a screenshot of the message via his stories with a shoulder-shrugging emoji.

Only last week, the player posted an image to his feed caling for an end of racial abuse on social media, in a campaign with the PFA.

Police Scotland told the BBC they are unable to confirm whether the message has been officially reported to them.

Tavernier has also been subjected to abuse on the pitch recently. Earlier this month a Hibernian fan was jailed for 100 days for confronting him at the side of the pitch.

While Motherwell banned a supporter for throwing a coin at the Rangers player during their 3-0 win at Fir Park.
