A THUG left an intensive care worker so injured he may not be able to return to work in a high dependency unit a court heard.

Declan Sinclair, 25, Prospecthill Crescent, Toryglen, admitted assaulting Paul Smith, 50, on Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, last February.

Mr Smith had gone to the aid of Demi Miller, 24, who Sinclair also pleaded guilty to assaulting to her severe injury at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

The court heard Sinclair left Mr Smith unconscious for a few minutes after the attack.

Prosecutor Harry Findlay said: “The victim was used to multi-tasking and working under pressure and he was concerned following the incident.

“He now experiences headaches, tinnitus, has a loss of balance and limited movement in his right shoulder.”

Miss Miller was verbally abused by a woman in Glasgow’s City Centre in the early hours of February 5, 2018.

CCTV showed Sinclair, who knew the abusive woman, approach and attack Miss Miller.

Sinclair pulled Miss Miller’s hair and pushed her to ground before repeatedly punching her head and body. He continued his attack by repeatedly punching and kicking his head and body.

Mr Findlay continued: “He tried to protect his body but eventually lost consciousness for a few minutes.”

Ambulances took both victims to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The court was shown pictures of Miss Miller the day after the incident.

They revealed severe bruising around the eye and visible marks on her face.

Mr Smith had severe facial and shoulder injuries.

Doctors diagnosed him with a ‘High Grade Partial Tear’ to the tendon on his rotator cuff.

He was off work for three months following the incident.

Sheriff Mackenzie deferred sentence until next month for reports.
