STEVEN GERRARD is confident Jake Hastie will prove to be a shrewd long-term signing for Rangers after completing a move for the highly-rated forward.
Hastie has agreed a four-year deal with the Light Blues and will move to Ibrox in the summer.
Now Gerrard is keen to nurture the talent of the 20-year-old.
He said: “When you get a job, of course especially at a place like Ranger, the demand is to win yesterday. That’s the reality of it so in an ideal situation you go and buy every single player who is ready now to go and challenge for these awards.
“But that’s not how it works, you’ve got to try and build a squad that’s capable of competing and respect the club is going to be here for many, many years.
“So you’ve got to buy assets and talent that is ready to challenge now but who is going to be here for a very long time and Jake ticks that box. He’s a young lad who has just been recognised by the Under-21s. That’s the type of talent we want to bring here and help and develop and grow and join them to the Ross McCrories and Glenn Middletons of this world and have a young and vibrant exciting squad. And that’s where Jake comes in.”
