STEVEN GERRARD is confident Rangers will see further improvement in midfielder Steven Davis once he gets a full pre-season under his belt.

The Northern Irishman has become the latest player to put pen-to-paper ahead of next term after signing a one-year deal.

Davis has impressed in recent weeks after a sluggish start to his second spell at Ibrox and Gerrard said: “The idea with Davo was six months but when I sat down and had a chat with him I said ‘look we want to do it longer than six months, lets see how it pans out’.

“You can see of late he is in top form and it is great to have him in that top form. That is what I brought him in for.

“I certainly believe with a full pre-season and three or four friendless and some qualifiers under his belt that can continue that form for another 12 months.

“That is the calibre of player I want to be surrounded by, the professionalism I want to be surrounded by. Your job is a lot easier around those top players.”

Gerrard has already completed moves for Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie this summer. But he refused to be drawn on a deal for Rennes defender Mexer after being linked with a swoop for the Mozambican.
